Welcome to EQUIMETRIX
Accurate weight and body condition are essential to good horse management - yet they’re often estimated.
I provide a professional mobile equine weighbridge service, travelling to yards and competition venues across the West Midlands to deliver reliable, objective measurements that support horse health, performance and welfare.
Using a calibrated, portable weighbridge, I offer precise weight readings alongside body condition scoring, helping owners make informed decisions around feeding, worming, medication, travel, and overall management. Height measurement is included free of charge with every visit.
About me

My name is Dr Scarlet Milo
Hi! I'm Scarlet - scientist by training, horse girl by nature, and pony mad for as long as I can remember.
Professionally, I hold a PhD in biophysical chemistry and have over 10 years experience in scientific methods and data analysis. Turning numbers into meaningful, practical decisions is quite literally my day job - and it turns out those skills are just as valuable in the yard as they are in the lab.
These days, my herd consists of a warmblood and two natives, affectionately (and accurately) known as “the fatties”. One lives with EMS, and the other is laminitis-prone. All three have very different dietary needs - which means I spend an inordinate amount of time thinking about hay, sugar and how one pony can gain weight just by looking at grass.
Living with horses who require careful management made me realise how much we still rely on guesswork in horse care, particularly when it comes to weight and forage. Sugar levels in hay can vary massively, yet forage makes up the majority of a horse’s diet. Without recording weight data at regular intervals, we’re often making decisions blind.
While regular weight management is critical for good-doers and metabolically sensitive horses, I strongly believe that regular weighing is beneficial for every horse, not just “the fatties”. Accurate weights inform feeding, worming, and medication dosing. Even transport considerations - how much weight are you actually carrying in your 3.5 tonne lorry?
I am completely independent, with no links to feed companies and no ulterior motive. My aim is simply to provide accurate, objective measurements, analyse the data, and help owners use that information to manage their horses with confidence.
With up to 70% of horses in the UK classed as overweight, and huge variation in forage quality, evidence-based management has never been more important.
My mantra is simple. Evidence over estimates. Always!
